Home Security Cameras Keep Your Home Protected

Did You know that having a home security system can reduce your homeowner’s insurance rates? Most homeowner’s insurance companies encourage you to have security systems.  Not only can video cameras be a deterrent to crime, the video can actually help police catch intruders.  A more advanced security system could net you a 5% to 15% discount on your homeowner’s insurance rates.

Today’s technology has made setting up security precautions, such as security cameras, a cinch!  You no longer need to be a millionaire to utilize a security camera.  You can even install a security camera yourself.  Security cameras provide a means for owners to watch over their property from the safety and convenience of any location.  These types of systems are great deterrents to thievery and unwanted entry.

Most home security cameras require little wiring, but installation differs according to model. Here are the basic steps:

1. Survey the area to be monitored. Install the camera at a proper distance from the area to be surveyed.  Cameras vary in the distances from which they focus, so first do research to find the model that will work best for your situation.  For installation, simply follow the instruction manual that comes with your security camera product.

2. Secure the camera using proper mounts, etc.  Make sure that the camera you are to install cannot be moved.  The location should be secure and tamper proof.

4. Connect the camera to the monitor according to the manufacturer’s directions.  Make sure the wiring is as hidden and secure as possible.  This will make it harder for vandals and thieves from damaging your wiring.

5. Fine tune your system. Make sure you optimize the images you receive from the camera. Set up a regular maintenance plan and a backup plan in case your camera breaks down.
